Another Raw-Edged Raglan Tee

I really like this pattern! The Raw-Edged Raglan Tee from the Sewing For Boys book. It's great--easy to whip up and very versatile. Perfect for baby gifts.

It was a bit too windy to take decent pictures outside--the camel started looking much less like a camel than it really does so I headed back inside to take some less proper colored pictures. This was the only one that looked like a camel...the others looked like this:

Yep, not like it should be--kind of wonky.

The desert color (kind of a greenish-yellow) fabric is a knit from the second hand store and the turquoise a ribbed sweater knit from Fabric.com.

I found the camel picture that I used for the applique here. Very cute picture--perfect for the somewhat desert color of the shirt (minus the turquoise color of course!)

I should sew some of these up for my own kids--I keep giving them all away!

Rag Blanket

So, I have done a bit of sewing the past week--not a ton, but I whipped this together to add to my stock of rag blankets for sale on my Facebook page. I realized I was a little low on the girly rag blankets, so I need to restock. Plus, fresh stock is always great!

A bit of a windy day, but I'm working on my photography skills, heh. It is amazing how the sunlight makes much nicer pictures than inside a darkish house.

And, a close-up to see the lovely fabric this is made of:

Purple checked flannel with some lovely white flannel that has variegated dots scattered on it. I believe it's from Fabricland--I bought it off a lady from our local Swap and Buy site. I love a good deal!
Now, to get behind my sewing machine again and whip up some more lovely projects!!!

Some Baby Sewing

My sister-in-law is expecting a baby soon and asked me to do some sewing for her. I couldn't say no to that! Some receiving blankets which were pretty straight forward and a nursing cover which took a bit more effort.

I love this fabric--I'm not sure where it's from (I got it as a gift from a friend) but they're flannel. I also used it here. I managed to squeeze two more washcloths out of this fabric, and that's it. Now, just to find out where this lovely stuff came from so I can go get myself some more.

I basically cut four 21"x 30" rectangles and then coverstitched (I think that's the name of the stitch?) the edges. Pretty simple.

The nursing cover, on the other hand was a little more work. Because I didn't have any large enough pieces, we decided to piece these three together. So, I did some French Seams to make the back look nice and tidy yet. That is my first attempt at French Seams and I'm pretty pleased how it turned out.
I basically took three 28" x 13" pieces and sewed those together. For the strap, I took two pieces--a piece approximately 30" x 3" and one shorter one--I think about 8" x 3" to attach the D-rings to the nursing cover. Inside the casing is a 15" piece of boning.
I referred a bit to this tutorial but adjusted it to use D-rings instead of a coverall clip plus, the hems and casing were done with different measurements just because I have some 'favorite' measurements to use for that.
The fabric is Sunny Daze and I bought it at Fabric.com. It's a very cheery fabric--I bought it in both the blue and the pink colors.

Perfect for nursing!

And, all packaged up to be handed over to my Sister-in-law as she awaits the birth of their first born!!!

Upcycled Dress

Some time ago, I bought this at Value Village:

Quite an unflattering style, but the print looked like something I could use for my daughter's clothes. It's a knit fabric--a polyester and spandex mix.
I had found a pattern in my book, Fabric by Fabric One-Yard Wonders--the Sassy Dress--perfect for my little girl.
And, here is the outcome of a bunch of seam ripping the orginal dress, cutting, and the fun part--sewing:

The front. I'm not sure I like how heavy the pocket seems on this fabric--it pulls down a bit too much.

And, the back--I used a fabric-covered button. The seam in the back is the original back seam in the original dress. I couldn't squeeze both front and back from the front, unfortunately.
The pink fabric is an interlock knit from Michael Miller in Raspberry. I've had this laying around for quite some time now--around a year and a half. I have used it for other projects before but I'm not thrilled with the quality of this fabric. Usually Michael Miller fabric is lovely, but this batch of interlock for some reason doesn't retain it's shape--it stretches out and doesn't really bounce back very well. But, as binding it doesn't do too bad. Adds a nice pop of color to an already brightly colored dress. Now, the weather just has to warm up and my daughter can wear this as a play dress--I'm looking forward to summer!

And, I'm linking up:

Back at it!

Whew! After a week away in Cuba and an all-nighter travelling, I am finally energetic enough to be sewing again!!! One of my sisters had a baby about 6 weeks ago (I know--I'm super late to be finally sewing a baby gift!) and it was high time to sew a gift for my newest nephew.

It's from the book, 'Sewing for Boys'--the Raw-edged Raglan Tee. I love this pattern--it's one of my favourites from this book. It's nice and quick plus great for trying out new applique ideas!

The fabrics are a Stretch Ottoman Knit Turquoise and a Rayon blend Baby Rib Knit in Heather Grey. Both were bought from Fabric.com. The turquoise knit I had bought quite a while ago in the hopes of using it for cuffs and a neckband for a pair of pjs for my daughter. I've never made those yet....
The Heather Grey Rib Knit, I used previously for a t-shirt for myself. I don't think I posted about that yet. I might just have to do that yet.

Here is a close-up of the applique--a cute little dog that I found here. And, no, I did not applique it the wrong way--the fabric is opposite of a rib knit in that the stretch goes the opposite way! I had to get used to that while sewing it, but it added a neat 'dimension' to the shirt.

And, for those who are like me and like to inspect the seams, etc. Here is a close-up of the neck-band (note the way the fabric is 'ribbed') and the exposed seams.
Now, just to mail it out to my sister for her newest little (or not-so-little--he's bigger than my 3 month old) man!

Oh, and when we came home from Cuba, we found this:

Cute, eh?!

An Award

I found out that I've been given an award, or better said, my blog has been given an award. Deanna from Little D and Me awarded it to me. And, from what she said on her blog post, it is awarded to blogs with less than 200 followers. This blog definitely falls into that category!
So, now what I'm supposed to do is,
1) award it to 3-5 other small blogs
2) thank the person who awarded me with it (Thanks, Deanna :) Oh, and I have no idea how I manage to get as much sewing in as I do!!)
3) Display the Liebster Blog Award somewhere on my blog...

So, to these blogs goes the Liebster Award:

1) Jess from Gracious Threads. A brand new blog run by my friend, an awesome sewist, Jess!
2) Stacey at Boy Oh Boy Oh Boy. Stacey is currently hosting a Sewing For Boys Sew-along. She has some awesome creativity!
And, last but not least,
3)  Tammy at Happy is...what Happy Does . She has done an awesome tutorial on reverse applique--go check her work out!

So, that is the Liebster Blog Award.
