KCW Days 4 & 5--Tree Climber Trousers

And, for my final days of KCW, I sewed up a pair of Tree Climber Trousers as shorts.

My son wasn't too thrilled to pose today--must be the rainy days we've been having!

I love the topstitching on these--they add such fun detailing.
Basically, what I did was cut the back as long as I needed, and then cut the knee panel a bit longer than I knew I'd need so I could trim them to match the back exactly.

No, he's not cold--just stoic.

These should come in handy the next week--it's supposed to be in the high 20s, possibly low 30s! Love the warmth!

The pattern is available in the Go-To Patterns shop. (affiliate link)

Stitch Swap--Pirate's Treasure Wallet Pattern

Stephanie from Swoodson Says organized a Stitch Swap for a group of us sewing bloggers.
I received a lovely package in the mail from Amy from Friends Stitched Together!

Amy sent me a package for my boys--pirate fabric.
But, instead of just sending one yard as the plan was, she sent a piece of coordinating fabric and a spool of yellow thread as well.
Now, the hard part was thinking of what to make for my boys so that at least the older two could have something made out of the fabric since they both *loved* the pirate ships!

I had recently made my daughter a purse which she carries to Church.
The boys decided that they needed a wallet so they could take money to Church.
After searching for a wallet pattern and not finding anything that I (they) liked, I decided I'd just make a pattern.

http://shrsl.com/?~63rd

I made two right away.
It's a trifold wallet with a good number of pockets!

There is a pocket for bills, a pleated zipper pocket for coins, a vinyl pocket for ID, and three card pockets!

The boys love them, and have started helping my husband work on the farm to earn some more money to put into them!

You can buy a copy of the pattern here!

KCW Day 2 and 3--Suburban Basic Tee

(*This post contains affiliate links--I get a small commission if you click through and buy through these links. It helps me to be able to keep having more content on my blog!*)

Day 2 and 3 of KCW and I made two Suburban Basic Tees from Terra's Treasures.

The fabric is from Girl Charlee--a lovely spandex knit. It was a dream to sew!

I really like the fit of this t-shirt--that was what my hope was when I bought the pattern--a slim fitting t-shirt that would be long enough for my boys. They're a size 7 and a size 6.

I had to include this 'serious' face picture! Ha!

For the hem, I used a stitch on my sewing machine that gives a lot of stretch.
I'm hoping that'll keep any seams from popping!

The shirts are just perfect for everyday play--rolling on the grass with the kittens or romping in the forest!

KCW Day 1 and Some More Refashioning

It's Kids Clothes Week!!
Here is my Day 1!

kid's clothes week

Before Leah was born, I cleaned out my clothes closet.
I got rid of a lot of clothes that didn't fit, weren't modest, or were just getting really old.
(I have a lot of really old--like high school old!)
In my pile of cast-offs were four tank tops that weren't up to my standard of modesty, so they got cut up.

I made my daughter undies.
There are only 3 pairs in the pictures but I made 6 pairs--two from each tank top plus the white tank top for the binding.

I love refashioning or up-cycling clothes like this.
It's less wasteful and it's a fun challenge seeing how I can arrange the pattern pieces to get as much usable fabric out of the garment!

Estherlyn's Jumper

*Warning--cuteness overload!*

When Linda from Merry Church Mouse put out a call for testers for her Estherlyn Jumper, I knew it'd be perfect for Leah!

I was quite impressed with Linda's first pattern--it is very professionally done and it's a great canvas for all kinds of fun embellishments.
I tried lace for the first time, and I love how feminine it is.
Plus, I strayed quite far from my usual pink...
and I love the result!

The fabric was from Fabricland--buy 1 meter get 3 free, the lace was in my stash from a long time ago--it is thrifted and the buttons were also from the thrift shop!
The lining fabric is from Walmart--plain white cotton.

And, I cannot leave without throwing in these pictures yet--love this little girl!

You can get a copy of the Estherlyn Jumper here for 25% off using the code, LAUNCH.
Sizing is 3m to 10 and Leah is wearing a 3m at 2 weeks old (9lbs 11oz)--just a smidgen big!

Refashion Month--Knit Dress to Maxi Skirt

House of Estrela is hosting her refashion month!

And, I'm joining in!

I found this dress at the thrift shop and it is completely not my style.
I prefer a more modest top, and it is see through....maybe it was a swim cover-up, I don't know!
Either way, I bought it thinking I could salvage the fabric for something.

This pattern is amazing--it has 9 different length options, slim and regular width, and wide or narrow waistband.

I chose to make the slim, petite maxi skirt, and I love how it turned out.

I threw in a second, above the knee length skirt to make the skirt modest--it's attached right at the waistband, with the side seams facing out to make it nice and comfy. And, that fabric was a long sleeved $3 tee from Walmart that I chopped up, so also a refashion!

I used both original hems, so no hemming--this skirt was done from start to finish in less than 1/2 hour!

Now, the question is: What do I style it with?!
I had originally worn the grey shirt on the bottom, thinking grey and pink--one of my favourite combos.
But, my dear husband thought I should wear white with it.
And, I threw in the other option as a possibility--a bit of a layered look for fall, maybe?
Let me know what you think--would love to have your thoughts!

Either way, I love it--it's so comfy!
And, I'm eyeing my stash of knit fabrics thinking they'll make some more comfy maxi skirts...maybe I should just make another trip to the thrift store.

And, now for the giveaway!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

And, you can add pictures to the Refashion Flickr Group to be entered to win a bundle of patterns as well!!

Catherine by BebeLambs

I had the privilege of testing a tutorial from BebeLambs!
This cute little dress or top is called the Catherine.
It's a tutorial--there are no pattern pieces, but there are measurements to cut the pieces.
And, it's on sale for $3.50 through July 4th!

I made the 3 month size for my little girl in the dress length.
There are measurements for top, tunic, dress, and maxi.
Plus, there is a ruffle option.
Sizing goes from 18" doll to 10, so it can be used for many years!

The fabric I used is Nursery Versery by Heather Ross and the green is a Kona solid in Avocado.
Both fabrics are fabrics that I won in previous giveaways.

To get your Catherine pattern, visit the BebeLambs Etsy shop or her website!
Plus, there is a coupon for 25% off her website with a cart total of $7.00 using coupon code INDEPENDENCE.
